Experience description:

One Saturday I had arranged to go fishing with a friend who was to pick me up at my house at 4.30 A.M. I decided that instead of going to bed I'd just lie on the sofa until my friend called. I could never fall asleep on a sofa or chair and still can't to this day so I simply lay relaxing thinking about the day to come. What happened that night was utterly terrifying and I really thought I was actually dying. As I was relaxing a very light 'buzzing' started in my ears, almost at first like a fly or tiny insect was buzzing around somewhere in my inner ear. I had not much time to react to this when this 'light buzzing' very quickly turned into a deafening roar which caused me to instantly panic and instinctively jump up from the sofa. I found to my absolute horror that I could not move a muscle and when I tried to call out for help I couldn't speak a word. I was fully conscious throughout. I found myself rising towards the ceiling and thinking I was dying I said goodbye ( in my mind) to all those I loved. Just as quickly I found myself back lying on the sofa with the roaring becoming less loud and my mobility returning.

I found the whole experience terrifying and more so as it happened perhaps six times over the next few weeks. I suspected a serious health issue and visited my doctor which did me no good at all. I explained what was happening and I knew by the way he looked at me that he thought I was imagining the whole thing, although being a very nice man he wouldn't come straight out and say so. This recurred many times over the years and I gradually became somewhat accustomed to it, however it was only about two years ago that I actually heard of Out of Body Experiences and realized that this was something that has been much investigated. I read a lot about the subject and over the last while I have been trying to consciously control my actions when this 'state' occurs, always on the verge of sleep. The terror that I experienced all those years ago has been replaced by fascination and a conviction that during these experiences no part of me actually leaves my body but enters some part of my consciousness that is only accessible during the period between wakefulness and sleep. The fact that I believe that I don't actually leave my body makes no difference to what is an unbelievable experience, and proves to me that the 'unexplored country' is our own limitless subconscious...of course I could just as easily be wrong, but I intend to take every opportunity to find out.

LOCATION DESCRIPTION:  Did you recognize any familiar locations or any locations from familiar religious teachings or encounter any locations inhabited by incredible or amazing creatures?            Yes     I seemed to travel through very familiar locations but strangely I didn't recognize any of the people I saw there. Also they seemed to notice me but did not look straight at me or try to speak to me.

Did you see a light?           No

Did you meet or see any other beings?           Yes     Only normal people who seemed to be aware of me but did not want to communicate in any way.

How has the experience affected your relationships? Daily life? Religious practices? Career choices?       I am not religious and never have been, I am fascinated by these experiences and hope to be able to control my actions in them when they occur in future.

Has your life changed specifically as a result of your experience?         Yes     I feel there is far more to us that we usually realize.

Have you shared this experience with others?         No       What emotions did you experience following your experience?        At first terror, now fascination.

What was the best and worst part of your experience?      The worst was the terror at the beginning, the best is now knowing there is no danger and actually looking forward to exploring what I believe is a limitless subconscious.
