Robert B's Experience
|
Experience description:
On Tuesday Afternoon,
February 28th, 1984... I was at my parents house. I went upstairs, to my old
bedroom, to lay down at approximately 1:00 PM. It was a miserable, cold, rainy
day. I drifted off to sleep. I guess I started dreaming. In my "Dream" I was
standing inside the cockpit of a commercial jetliner. I was standing in the
center just behind the two pilots. I could hear their chatter with
Air Traffic Control (ATC)
as well as the conversation between the two pilots. I could feel every bump,
every vibration of the plane. I could see out the front cockpit window that the
plane was on final approach. It was raining so the windshield wipers were on. I
could see the runway as we approached. One of the pilots or maybe the flight
engineer was calling off the altitude of the plane as it approached the runway.
I heard the countdown 40...30....20...20...It sounded like the number 20 was
repeated several times. The co-pilot said that "we're over the threshold". He
was concerned that the plane had touched down to far down the runway. I felt the
plane touch down fairly hard and both pilots were frantically working the
controls to slow the plane down. The next moment in the "Dream" I was standing
in a marsh looking at the port side of the jet. It had overshot the runway and
it's nose was in the water on an angle. I could see that the plane was a DC-10,
from it's profile. Then I woke up. It was about 2:15 or 2:30 when I awoke. I
didn't think anything of the experience at that moment. I proceeded to walk
downstairs to see what my mother was cooking for dinner and I turned on the TV.
Within a few minutes, there was a "breaking news" report that stated an SAS
DC-10,on arrival at JFK airport, had overshot the runway and was partly in the
water. Needless to say I was blown away. I knew that the "Dream" was too real.
It was in color, I felt the environment, I heard the pilots, etc. Not a day goes
by that I don't think about this experience. I find it absolutely fascinating.
It brings up a lot of questions about consciousness and the possibility that we
"continue" after our bodies have died. I will never forget this experience.
Was the kind of
experience difficult to express in words?
No
At the time of this
experience, was there an associated life threatening event?
Uncertain
What was your level of
consciousness and alertness during the experience?
I was asleep.
Was the experience
dream like in any way?
I thought I was
dreaming at the time...now...looking back...I'm convinced that it was an OBE.
Did you experience a
separation of your consciousness from your body?
Uncertain
I was seeing
everything from my point of view. Sometimes when you're dreaming, you can be an
observer and watch yourself like it's a movie. This experience was too
real....it was very different from other "dreams" that I've had.
What emotions did you
feel during the experience?
I don't remember
exactly how I was "feeling" during the experience.
Did you hear any
unusual sounds or noises?
As I stated
before....I was THERE!!! In the cockpit of the plane standing behind and in the
center of both pilots. I felt the shaking and vibrations of the plane.
I felt the plane touch
down on the runway. I heard the chatter between the pilots.
Did you recognize any
familiar locations or any locations from familiar religious teachings or
encounter any locations inhabited by incredible or amazing creatures?
No
Did you see a light?
No
Did you meet or see
any other beings?
No
Did you experiment
while out of the body or in another, altered state?
Uncertain
As I stated
before...I was "In the cockpit" with both pilots. It felt real.
Did you observe or
hear anything regarding people or events during your experience that could be
verified later?
Yes
The entire episode was
confirmed, by a special bulletin news cast, several minutes after I awoke.
Did you notice how
your 5 senses were working, and if so, how were they different?
Yes
I was aware of
everything that was happening in the "Dream". I don't recall smelling
anything....but as far as sight , hearing, tactile sensations...they were all
there.
Did you have any sense
of altered space or time?
No
Did you have a sense
of knowing, special knowledge, universal order and/or purpose?
No
Did you become aware
of future events?
No
Were you involved in
or aware of a decision regarding your return to the body?
No
Did you have any
psychic, paranormal or other special gifts following the experience that you did
not have prior to the experience?
Yes I do experience
what you might consider psychic episodes. I sometimes just "Know" that something
is about to happen...i.e.: Phone calls from people that I have not spoken with
in a long time...Someone would tell me about a medical condition that they are
concerned about...and I just "KNOW" that they will be all right. In fact a few
of my close friends ask me questions when something is wrong...all the time.
I had two identical
psychic episodes happen to me several years ago. Both episodes involved the
death of someone that I ONLY met ONCE. In both instances I was getting into my
car to go to the office. As I attempted to put the key in the ignition...I got
light headed and started hearing a name repeated over and over again. The first
time it happened was 10:00 AM on the morning of December 17th, 1997. I kept
hearing the name: "Norman"..."Norman"...."Norman."
This gentleman was my
mother-in-laws first cousin. He was a movie executive in Hollywood. I only met
him, once, at a family function. Later that day I was on the phone with my wife.
It was about 1:00 PM when we were on the phone. I asked her how her day was
going and she mentioned that she had spoken to her mother and that her mother's
cousin, Norman, had died...in California...at 7:00 AM PST. This blew me away. I
told my wife what I had experienced and she said "don't dream about me and
laughed it off." Another amazing experience for me. There was one other time
that this happened. Very similar in structure...only this time it was a vision
of my "best friends, sister's father-in-law." Again, someone that I only met
once. I could see him in my mind. He was crying with his head down and his hands
covering his face. I found out later that day that he passed away about the same
time that I experienced the vision. I think...in both cases...their
consciousness traveled and touched everyone that they had ever met...but only a
few experienced the contact. I feel blessed to have experienced these episodes.
Did you have any
changes of attitudes or beliefs following the experience?
Yes
I believe that
we "continue"...or should I say...our consciousness continues after the death of
the physical body. I truly believe in the concept of "Duality."
How has the experience
affected your relationships? Daily life? Religious practices? Career choices?
N/A
Has your life changed
specifically as a result of your experience?
Uncertain
Well...my belief
system has changed quite a bit, over the years, since this happened. I tend to
be more sympathetic to people. I don't rush to judgment about anyone. I feel
that we are all connected in some way.
Have you shared this
experience with others?
Yes
I have shared this
experience with a few people that have open minds. It's not the kind of subject
that one brings up in casual conversations. People would think that I'm crazy or
something like that. My close friends that I've shared this with have said..."of
course something like this would happen to YOU....no one else would be able to
deal with it."
What was the best and
worst part of your experience?
There really was
nothing negative about it, for me. Thank God that no one was killed, however
several people sustained injuries. I am just amazed that the "Universe" allowed
me to experience this event. There must be a reason why this happened. I can't
figure it out. Perhaps this was just something that I "needed" to experience for
spiritual development...I don't know.
Is there anything else
you would like to add concerning the experience?
I think I've said it
all. If someone would like to contact me...that's fine.
Perhaps you or one of
your colleagues can shed some light on this experience.
Following the
experience, have you had any other events in your life, medications or
substances which reproduced any part of the experience?
Uncertain I'm
not sure...
Did the questions
asked and information you provided accurately and comprehensively describe your
experience?
Yes
Yes. Just one
request.....if you publish this story...the ONLY thing you must leave out is the
last name of my mother-in-laws cousin, Norman. If you mention his name ....some
people could figure out who I am.
