Ray T's Experience
|
Experience description:
I was resting in a
recliner in the back yard, I didn't really think I was asleep, but perhaps I had
drifted off. I had just had a long discussion with a couple of friends who said
I should run to Canada and not go to Viet Nam. It was an extremely unpopular
war.
Anyway, I was standing
naked in the dark. I couldn't see anything really but I knew I was naked and it
was raining. The water was cold. Suddenly there was a blinding flash of light
and I went flying through the air. I remember the noise when I landed.
Everything went black and there was just nothing. Then there was a blinding
light and I looked at the light, it was beautiful, all different colors but
still white. Out of the light walked a man in a long white robe. His hair was
shoulder length and he had the kindest eyes. He spoke to me and said "You are
going to be OK. You are not going to die. Do not be afraid, everything will be
fine." Then as fast as he came, he was gone. I was once again back in the dark
and rain. Immediately I felt my body and actually stuck my left hand into my
left side. There was nothing there and then the pain hit. It was incredible
and I was crying and begging for help. I could smell burning flesh and hear the
cries of others also begging for help. Then all of a sudden I was back in my
back yard in the recliner.
I was a radio man in
Viet Nam. Our camp experienced a rocky attack. When it occurred, I was taking
a shower, it was 3am and dark and I was naked and the water was cold. I got
hit. I lost 4 ribs on the left side, my spleen, my left kidney, 1/3 of my
intestines and part of my stomach. My pancreas was severely damaged also but
they managed to save it. I spent the next year in hospitals from Viet Nam to
Japan to Hawaii to Long Beach Naval Hospital. I saw men injured far less than I
was die because they gave up. But I knew I was going to be OK. It never
occurred to my that I would die. I endured four major surgeries to keep me
alive over the next year. But I lived, as promised by the man in the long white
robe.
