Ray A's Experience
|
Experience description:
I had come
home from a day outdoors, playing with friends. No one else was home. I felt
tired, hot and lay down on my bed for a few minutes. I don't
remember going off to sleep so much as getting a feeling of weightlessness and
drifting up out of my bed. A long tunnel, dark with a bright light at the other
end loomed ahead, down the hall outside my bedroom and out the front of
the house. There were people in the light that I could not see who were telling
me it was ok to come to them. I knew with certainty that if I did reach them and
emerge from the tunnel into the light that I would not be able to return, that I
would be dead. I have no idea who the people were, they were not menacing, but I
was afraid. they may have said it was ok not to come to them. I remember
struggling quite hard to 'get back' and also knew I was above my body which was
still on the bed. When I did
get back to my body, I was wide awake, heart beating fast, scared, and in a
sweat. Soaking wet as a matter of fact, and had to change my clothes. I decided
not to mention my experience to anyone including friends, it seemed just too
weird.
I was in all
respects a normal healthy happy unstressed adolescent when this happened
Any associated medications
or substances with the potential to affect the experience?

difficult to express in words?
No,

experience, was there an associated life threatening event?
No

consciousness and alertness during the experience?
Very high
Was the
experience dream like in any way?
Yes certainly a the outset at
least until I felt myself drawn into the tunnel and being very scared
Did you experience a
separation of your consciousness from your body?
Yes
I was floating above and knew
my body was on the bed below as I was drawn to the tunnel
Did you hear any unusual
sounds or noises?
No though I was hyper conscious of
street noises outside my house but other than voices at end of tunnel, no sound
that I remember from there
Did you pass into or through a
tunnel or enclosure?
Yes
Describe:
not very far but it was
difficult not to continue and to return though that is what I wanted to do
Did you see a light?
Yes,
Bright at end of tunnel
Did you meet or see any other
beings? Yes,
heard rather than met or saw,
no faces were apparent and I do not know who they were. They spoke English
though I spoke both English and French
Did you experience a review of
past events in your life?
No
Did you observe or hear
anything regarding people or events during your experience that could be
verified later? No
Did you see or visit any
beautiful or otherwise distinctive locations, levels or dimensions?
No
Did you have any sense of
altered space or time?
Yes, Yes the tunnel
while it went out of the house seemed also to end in another world
Did you have a sense of
knowing, special knowledge, universal order and/or purpose?
Yes I knew that if I went
through to the light, I was never coming back

body, very consciously
Did you have any psychic,
paranormal or other special gifts following the experience that you did not have
prior to the experience?
No
Did you have any changes of
attitudes or beliefs following the experience?
No,
I pretty much buried the
experience away
How has the experience
affected your relationships? Daily life? Religious practices? Career
choices? No effect
that I can discern, though I am non judgmental of those who appear to have weird
experiences!
Has your life changed
specifically as a result of your experience?
No
Have you shared this
experience with others?
No
What emotions did you
experience following your experience?
I was afraid for a while, minutes
rather than hours, though I thought about it for a day or two and just put it
down as a weird experience that did not bear telling.
What was the best and worst
part of your experience?
The best was the feeling of being
separated from my body being able to float above and away from it, something
like flying. The worst was knowing that I had to come back or die.
Is there anything else you
would like to add concerning the experience?
I mentioned masturbating at the
outset of this experience because I think it may have been partially for that
reason that I kept the story to myself. Masturbation to a Catholic boy was very
private and having it even remotely associated with this near death/out of body
experience probably caused me to keep the experience private as well
Following the experience, have
you had any other events in your life, medications or substances which
reproduced any part of the experience?
No
Did the questions asked and
information you provided accurately and comprehensively describe your
experience?
Yes
Please offer any suggestions
you may have to improve this questionnaire.
I think you might expand on
people's health at the time, mental as well as physical, emotional components,
other stress factors.
