Experience description:

I was coming in and out of sleep , all of a sudden I was in this amazing light , it felt endless in every direction and I was very aware that It was infinite, I felt at the time an amazing feeling of peace and calm and always felt it was this light that was causing me to feel this. I didn't want to leave but I did , when I woke I could hear the rest of my family down stairs watching TV and I felt I had to go down to them, I was shaky and when I stood up a hand took mine , I couldn't see the hand but i could feel it and my hand was in the shape of holding a hand , I wasn't scared but i was amazed by it , this feeling continued while I walked down the stairs and walking into the sitting room and sat on my mother's knee , when I say I held my had up and said mummy their is something holding my hand a then it let go . For years after I tried to go back to the whiteness to feel that feeling again . I only told my mother about it 2 years ago (26 years later) . I'm writing this now because my father died a little while back and my daughter (6) was wondering what it's like we granddad is now and I just told her about the whiteness and the peace and clam like nothing on earth .

At the time of your experience was there an associated life-threatening event?   Uncertain  I was sick , I had a very high fever at the time , my mother was up and down stairs checking on me regularly

Was the experience difficult to express in words?  Yes     It's difficult to explain to someone this feeling it's pretty indescribable.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness?         While in the whitness

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness?      More consciousness and alertness than normal   It was just incredibly vivid , extreme feeling of calm and peace

What emotions did you feel during the experience?   Amazing calm and peace unlike I've ever felt.

Did you see an unearthly light?   Yes   Vast/infinite (I was very aware it continued forever, I was sure the light was causing the amazing feeling.

How accurately do you remember the experience in comparison to other life events that occurred around the time of the experience?   I remember the experience more accurately than other life events that occurred around the time of th   I still think about the amazing light , I tried for years as a child to go back at night just to feel that way again but of course I couldn't.

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened:   Experience was definitely real   I spent so long trying to go back to the light , I longed to feel it again!

What do you believe about the reality of your experience at the current time:   Experience was definitely real   I can still remember it 28 years later , I can't remember the exact feeling but that it was amazing and nothing like I have felt since.
