Out Of
Body Experience 1
Tuesday February 14, 1995
Sometime early this morning, between 5 to 7 AM, I had a lucid dream.
It started out normally then I noticed an irregularity and became lucid. This
dream did not go well and I nearly awoke. Lying in bed I felt my astral body
start to move outside my physical body. I consciously and deliberately made a
separation by allowing my astral body to roll over from left side to right side
and, with a degree of pain and difficulty, to leave the bed.
Two things were very apparent - 1) there was some pain during
separation. It was tolerable and felt like stretching a muscle in the chest too
hard while exercising. 2)The room seemed very dark, more so than it should have
been. In addition I was at first disoriented though only for about a minute.
Moving about seemed to be difficult at times. Just after leaving my physical
body flying above the floor was easy. Then it became hard to fly, perhaps
because I was not familiar with this particular state or its inherent
perceptions. Any
associated medications or substances with the potential to affect the
experience: No At the
time of the experience, was there an associated life threatening event?
No What was
your level of consciousness and alertness during the experience?
Consciousness was as clear and lucid as any wakening experience. Was the
experience dream like in any way?
No, in fact I could quite clearly tell that it was not a dream. Did you
experience a separation of consciousness from your body?
Yes Describe
your appearance or form apart from your body:
This experience was remarkably similar to reports from other people in that I
had an astral/etheric body that was apart and separate from my physical body
that was lying asleep in bed. I did not make any deliberate observations of my
astral body yet I was distinctly conscious that I had both an astral/etheric
body And a physical body. What
emotions did you feel during the experience?
It was not a very emotional experience. This is because it was short - only five
or ten minutes. It was not emotional also because I had deliberately induced an
astral projection. Did you
hear any unusual sounds or noises?
No. Any noises that I did hear were sounds common to that apartment building or
were noises of vehicles down on the street. Did you
see a light? No Did you
meet or see any other beings?
No Did you
observe or hear anything regarding people or events during your experience that
could be verified later?
No Did you
see or visit any beautiful or otherwise distinctive locations, levels or
dimensions? No
Describe:
It should be noted that I have since had many out of body experiences and have
'visited' otherworldly universes and/or realities on a number of occasions. Did you
have any sense of altered space or time?
Yes
Describe:
Space was both 'normal' and 'supranormal'. Everything in my apartment was in its
correct place and was as it should have been. Yet the ability to float through
the empty space in midair and to partially to go into (and nearly through) a
wall made it clear to me that this space was definitely not normal physical
earth. Did you
have a sense of knowing special knowledge, universal order and/or purpose?
No Did you
reach a boundary or limiting physical structure?
Yes
Describe:
At some point I tried to go through a wall or a window. Though on later
occasions I was able to go through a wall or window while astral on this
occasion I was prevented from getting outside. Were you
involved in or aware of a decision to return to the body?
No Did you
have any psychic, paranormal or other special gifts following the experience you
did not have prior to the experience?
Yes
Describe:
Following this initial experience I found it easier to 'project'. Since then I
have had many such experiences. Did you
have any changes of attitudes or beliefs following the experience?
No Has the
experience affected your relationships? Daily life? Religious practices etc.?
Career choices? This
experience (and others like it) have strengthened my belief in the existence of
non-physical/ethereal/'spiritual' universes and realities. Have you
shared this experience with others?
Yes
Describe:
Uncertain and various. None of my closest associates have ever had similar
experiences. Most people have been open minded and have admitted the possibility
of such events occurring. Yet most remain skeptical as they have not had such
experiences themselves. What
emotions did you experience following your experience?
I felt physically and mentally strong for a day or two after this experience. What was
the best and worst part of your experience?
This experience opened a door to infinite possibilities. To date I can honestly
state that there was no worst aspect to my experience. Is there
anything else you would like to add concerning the experience?
This experience confirmed my belief in existence after physical death. Has your
life changed specifically as a result of your experience?
Yes
Describe:
I have continued to have out of body experiences over the past 7 years and have
also become much more interested in OBEs and related experiences. Following
the experience, have you had any other events in your life, medications or
substances which reproduced any part of the experience?
Yes
Describe:
Have had many other OBEs including several which were deliberately induced (from
a light sleep state). Have also met a number of people who have had out of body
experiences. Did the
questions asked and information you provided accurately and comprehensively
describe your experience?
Yes Please
offer any suggestions you have to improve the www.oberf.org questionnaire?
Suggestion 1) Ask if the experience(s) were consciously and deliberately
induced. Suggestion
2) Inquire as to whether experiencers recognized any familiar locations (Monroe
Locale I), whether experiencers recognized any locations familiar from religious
teachings, ie. Heaven, Hell, Hades , etc (Monroe Locale II) or whether
experiencers encountered any locations inhabited by 'incredible' or 'amazing'
creatures such as might be found in a realm described by Robert Monroe as Locale
III. Suggestion
3) Inquire as to whether experiencers experimented while out of body. For
example did the experiencer attempt to visit a family member or friend at
another location. Did the experiencer eyewitness an event that he or she would
not have known about had they not been out of body. Or did the experiencer
attempt to move a physical object while in the astral/etheric universe. If an
experiencer did attempt an experiment while out of body then what was the result
of that experiment.
Upon reaching
a window I nearly materialized through a wall to outside. I could have done this
with effort and perhaps some pain. It was then that I realized that this was an
actual Out Of Body Experience. I decided to explore my room first and become
familiar with the OBE state though I was very curious to see what flying out of
doors would be like. Then the sound of a car engine caused me to partially
awaken back in my physical body.
