Experience description:

All at once, she began smiling and was extremely happy, and began talking.  I asked to whom she was talking, and she began naming names - they were all people who had died.  She said they were all around her bed, and she was very, very happy to be seeing them again.

Was the kind of experience difficult to express in words? No      

At the time of this experience, was there an associated life threatening event?          Yes     I was called to her bedside because she was dying.

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness?    She died, so I can't answer this for her.

Did your vision differ in any way from your normal, everyday vision (in any aspect, such as clarity, field of vision, colors, brightness, depth perception degree of solidness/transparency of objects, etc.)?  Uncertain      For 6, 7, and 8, I can't really answer this for her.  I was never able to speak to her about any of this.

Did your hearing differ in any way from your normal, everyday hearing (in any aspect, such as clarity, ability to recognize source of sound, pitch, loudness, etc.)?
            Uncertain      Again, I don't know.

What emotions did you feel during the experience?            She was VERY happy, huge smile, talking to them.

Did you pass into or through a tunnel or enclosure?          Uncertain      Again, I'm not sure about these answers.  I'm including this just for your data, though you may not be able to use it since I only observed something.

Did you meet or see any other beings?           Yes     Again, I guessed at 16 and 17, but this one I know for sure.  There were more than just one person there - there were several, and they were her deceased relatives - I think a husband, a child, maybe others.  I got the feeling it was a family reunion!

Did you observe or hear anything regarding people or events during your experience that could be verified later?          Uncertain     

Did you see or visit any beautiful or otherwise distinctive locations, levels or dimensions?            Uncertain

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience?    Yes     I had heard of others who saw relatives at their death bed.  My dad's co-worker reported it when her mother died.  When my mother died, after her last breath, she got a big smile on her face - that was her last action.  I was sure she had seen Heaven.  Both mom and the co-worker story happened after this, though - before this, I'd still heard of it a lot.

How did you view the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened:            Experience was definitely real    I could tell that she thought it was very real.  She was talking to them as though they were all around the bed.

Were there one or several parts of the experience especially meaningful or significant to you?   

How do you currently view the reality of your experience:            Experience was definitely real    I know what I saw, and I'm sure her relatives were really there.

Have your religious beliefs/practices changed specifically as a result of your experience?            Yes     I can't speak for her (she died), but I have been very changed by what I saw.

Following the experience, have you had any other events in your life, medications or substances which reproduced any part of the experience?         Yes     Yes, my mom smiling when she died.  There was no reason for that.           

Did the questions asked and information you provided so far accurately and comprehensively describe your experience?         Yes    

Are there any other questions we could ask to help you communicate your experience?   I'm an historian and have found quite a few NDEs recorded long, long in the past.  There are two involving Am. Indian people, one from the 1500s, another from the late 1700s.  I'd like to see questions describing what it was like after they got beyond the light.  Would someone from the Sahara, for example, see lush fields, even though that wasn't in their experience?  The Indian NDEs I just mentioned, above, describe native villages - they got beyond the light before they were revived.  Thanks!
