Experience description:

Happening nearly 65 years ago, it still is like as if it was yesterday.  Taking  a late afternoon nap in my dorm room at Loyola University, I found myself 'floating?', looking down at my T-shirt and jeans clad body face down.  I then noted my roommate at his desk studying for what I concluded looking at the book he was reviewing along with his notes; to be for a history exam. Although there were not Angels or other religious experiences, what I found different from most NDEs I've since read about was feeling the need of getting back into my body forthwith.  The next evening I asked my room mate (and, I even recall his name) Ed S how he did on his History exam.  He looked at me oddly and said:  'How'd you know I had a history exam?'  When I mentioned that I saw him at his desk studying for it, he became very perplexed, saying:  'You couldn't have.  You were in bed dead to the world even after I went to bed!'    A couple of days later, sharing a beer with one of my philosophy professors (I'm actually not sure if it was a Jesuit or Lay), he cautioned me not to say anything about it because people would think I was insane as such things are common to psychotic patients.     Now, I have to tell you, that caught my attention.   However, through the years, reading numerous books such as yours, I found the experiences more and more common, esp. with professionals.  Since then, I've begun sharing the experience if/when/where I deemed it of value.

As a side note, I was drafted into the Army after starting med school, but ended up as a science teacher which is another longer story.  My students certainly were introduced to the Creation Theory along with all the others although I had a neat way to sneak it in while teaching 45 years in the public system.   Bottom line, the reason I share this is in that in all my readings I've never heard anyone express the 'need to get back into their bodies.'  Was it because my heart stopped?

At the time of your experience was there an associated life-threatening event?   Uncertain  pretty obvious when I describe the experience.  With feeling the need to get back into my body, my heart had perhaps stopped?

Was the experience difficult to express in words?  No

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness?      very alert

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness?      Normal consciousness and alertness   Unlike any other experiences in the past, this one is like it happened yesterday.

Please compare your vision during the experience to your everyday vision that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience.   I had been asleep; a dreamless one...... and, I've never had a dream any where near as vivid.  This was real.  I could look down at myself asleep on my bed.

Please compare your hearing during the experience to your everyday hearing that you had immediately prior to the time of the experience.   no hearing was involved.  The room was quiet

Did you see or hear any earthly events that were occurring during a time that your consciousness / awareness was apart from your physical / earthly body?   Yes   As said in the body of the what I sent, I saw my body and my room mate studying for a history exam.

What emotions did you feel during the experience?   Interestingly, I felt no emotions at all.... like it was a normal occurrence

Did scenes from the future come to you?  No

During your experience, did you encounter any specific information / awareness suggesting that there either is (or is not) continued existence after earthly life (“life after death”)?   Yes   afterwards it was obvious I could exist outside my body at least with sight

During your experience, did you encounter any specific information / awareness that you either did (or did not) exist prior to this lifetime?   No

Did you have a sense of knowing special knowledge or purpose?   No

What occurred during your experience included:   Content that was entirely consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of your experience   Come to think of it, the process sure didn't feel abnormal.  There was no fear or anything of the like.  Just looking around at what was there.

How accurately do you remember the experience in comparison to other life events that occurred around the time of the experience?   I remember the experience more accurately than other life events that occurred around the time of the experience   As I've said, I recall it 65 years later like it were yesterday

Discuss any changes that might have occurred in your life after your experience:   Presenting the  Creation Theory as a matter of scientific exploration while not sounding like a zealot.  I'm a teacher, not a preacher

My experience directly resulted in:   Large changes in my life

Did you have any changes in your values or beliefs after the experience that occurred as a result of the experience?
Yes   More convinced that there is 'something' out there and, as I add when speaking at funerals:  something worth living for and something worth dieing for

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience?   Uncertain   In some situations I've had premonitions to stop or whatever.

Are there one or several parts of your experience that are especially meaningful or significant to you?
In my writings ( I write a column for a newspaper) I often mention 'this entity who sits on my shoulder whispers into my ear'.  Now that doesn't actually happen, but it is my way of explaining how 'answers' often come to me out of nowhere.

Have you ever shared this experience with others?
Yes  outside of that philosophy professor a few days later, it was maybe some 50 years or so.

Did you have any knowledge of near death experience (NDE) prior to your experience?   No

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened:   Experience was definitely real   From my room-mate's description at how I couldn't have known what he was doing; something I saw vividly.

What do you believe about the reality of your experience at the current time:   Experience was definitely real   same answer as stated in #56

Have your relationships changed specifically as a result of your experience?   No

Have your religious beliefs/spiritual practices changed specifically as a result of your experience?   No

At any time in your life, has anything ever reproduced any part of the experience?   No

Is there anything else that you would like to add about your experience?   Nope, just sharing the 'need to get back into my body'.  It was as if I'd die if I didn't?  Never read that in any other experiences I've read.

Did the questions asked and information that you provided accurately and comprehensively describe your experience?   Yes   Not real sure what this question means.  Just that I'm certain that it all happened as stated.
What could a national organization with an interest in near death experience (NDE) do that would be of interest to you?  Need to make population more aware.  I'm sure there is an iceberg of people below water fearful of sharing their experiences.

Are there any other questions that we could ask to help you communicate your experience?              It took me months to find this site that I've been looking for, for years.  Evidence of the Afterlife has set here at my computer for months before I found the site beneath Jeffrey Long, M.D., name.  I'd been Googling it for months to no avail.  Then, lo and behold, your website was right there in front of me.  Perhaps this entity that sits on my shoulder whispered again?
