Experience description:

In my dream, I was somehow summoned to my childhood home by beings who were floating outside my old bedroom window. I arrived and asked, 'what's happening?'; there seemed to be a sense of urgency to the meeting.

In response, I found myself at ground level, gazing up at an enormous butterfly-shaped cloud formation to the North. Three friends were with me, two male and one female, whose energy seemed to have taken two forms - one masculine and one feminine - although none of this seemed to surprise me at the time.

I pointed excitedly at the sky, saying 'wow, look - a butterfly!' to which my friend replied, 'it's not a butterfly, it's the Angel Gabriel'. As she said this, a beam of light opened behind me; I looked at her and she nodded for me to step into it.

Up until this point, it felt dream-like, but once I stepped into the light, it became a very physical experience.

The light was warmly colored and I remember being surprised that it went straight up in an almost vertical angle. The moment I stepped into it, I had a feeling of rising upward. Almost instantaneously, I could hear myself saying, 'thank you for telling me/letting me know' before suddenly feeling myself being 'released' from this energy (not sure how else to describe it) and I could hear my mind calling, 'no, please, wait!' as I felt it was over too quickly and had the feeling of detachment and beginning to descend. All of a sudden I couldn't remember anything that had been discussed while I was there, wherever that was.

I felt myself in a wind-tunnel being blown so strongly I was having to shield my eyes as I descended. I could see my room very clearly from a slightly elevated viewpoint but at the same time I was in the tunnel too. My body was vibrating strongly and I thought the whole bed must be shaking violently. Something was still being communicated to me through deep, echoing reverberations and I was told to 'listen to your dreams/take note of your dreams' like different layers of echo resonating throughout my body at the same time.

I know that there was more to my message and something else was said, but it's just outside of my grasp, which frustrated me endlessly.

 Any associated medications or substances with the potential to affect the experience?      No     

Was the kind of experience difficult to express in words?          Yes    Communication reverberated through me rather than being 'heard' and I was in two places at the same time, which is hard to explain.

 At the time of this experience, was there an associated life threatening event? No     

What was your level of consciousness and alertness during the experience?    I was asleep and yet once I stepped into the light, I was also conscious.

            Was the experience dream like in any way?  It began as a dream, but felt very real.

 Did you experience a separation of your consciousness from your body?   Yes    I didn't feel any different - I was in a kind of wind tunnel, but knew it wasn't my physical self.

 What emotions did you feel during the experience?         I didn't want to come back - I felt I was being given important information about something that had changed.

 Did you hear any unusual sounds or noises?         I didn't really hear, but rather felt vibrating echoes within me which were layered on top of each other, like different ways of saying the same thing all at once and leading to the same understanding.

 LOCATION DESCRIPTION:  Did you recognize any familiar locations or any locations from familiar religious teachings or encounter any locations inhabited by incredible or amazing creatures?         No     

Did you see a light?        Yes    It was warm in color, an almost peachy-colored vertical beam of light.

 Did you meet or see any other beings?         Uncertain     I was in communication, but I do not know with who or what I was communicating.

 Did you experiment while out of the body or in another, altered state?         No     

Did you observe or hear anything regarding people or events during your experience that could be verified later?          No     

Did you notice how your 5 senses were working, and if so, how were they different? Uncertain     I could see very clearly when I was in the wind tunnel, almost too clearly now I come to think of it as my room should have been dark. Sound was felt rather than heard, but it was very clear and unmistakable.

 Did you have any sense of altered space or time?  Yes    I felt like I was gone for a while, but it also felt instantaneous, which hugely disappointed me.

 Did you have a sense of knowing, special knowledge, universal order and/or purpose?         Uncertain          Something of importance was communicated, it seemed urgent in some way and a involved a change of some sort.

 Did you reach a boundary or limiting physical structure?           No     

Did you become aware of future events?      Uncertain          Something was communicated, but it feels just outside of my conscious reach.

 Were you involved in or aware of a decision regarding your return to the body?          Uncertain     I was being sent back before I was ready to leave. I felt disappointed, but knew it was beyond my control.

 Did you have any psychic, paranormal or other special gifts following the experience that you did not have prior to the experience?      Uncertain     I have always experienced dreams which feel like they are of a different 'density' to normal dreams and these were quite strong in the weeks leading up to and after this experience.

 Did you have any changes of attitudes or beliefs following the experience?     Uncertain     It has reawakened an interest in the spiritual aspects of life, which I deliberately closed down to in my early twenties out of fear.

 How has the experience affected your relationships? Daily life? Religious practices? Career choices?   I am seeking out spiritual knowledge - and reconnecting with my dreams.

 Has your life changed specifically as a result of your experience? Yes    I have begun meditating, my body vibrates during my sleep and I have felt myself leaving my body on occasion since. I have had some meaningful dreams and am open to all possibilities again.

 Have you shared this experience with others?       Yes          People don't want to hear it - I have stopped talking about it now.

 What emotions did you experience following your experience? I was left with a sense of peace and wonder for about 3 weeks after and kept looking for my butterfly in the sky.

 What was the best and worst part of your experience?     I loved the experience, just wasn't ready to come back!

 Is there anything else you would like to add concerning the experience? I have had lucid dreams, sleep paralysis and a spontaneous OBE previously, as well as being visited by people in my dreams. My mother has had prophetic dreams and an OBE and my brother had an NDE. I wonder if there is a genetic element to these types of experience?

 Following the experience, have you had any other events in your life, medications or substances which reproduced any part of the experience?       No
