James K's Experience
|
Experience description:
At the
time of this experience, I lived outside of the city of Wilmington, NC. It was
very dark at night. when I turned off the light in my bedroom it was totally
dark. on this particular night, I awoke out of sleep, I knew I was awake, and
not dreaming, and I was floating about three feet above my bed. I could not see
because it was dark, but I knew I was floating above the bed. There was a
floating sensation as if on an airplane. At the time, I could not say if I was
out of my body or physically floating. In the
corner of the bedroom, a small flame the size of a candle flame was burning. It
looked just like a small candle flame. Then I heard a male voice that seemed to
come from behind the flame not from within the flame. I saw no one. And it
said, "I am the way, the truth, and the light, follow me." Then vanished. Then
slowly, I seemed to float downward. There was a sensation of re-entering my
body, which is why I say it was an OBE, though I couldn't tell in the darkness.
I recognized the words as a scripture quotation attributed to Christ. But, there
was no indication that the voice was Christ. Only that it had a supernatural
quality. As a
Pentecostal minister, I am accustomed to supernatural things, and stories,
however, I have only recently began to think of these things in a more
paranormal light rather than religious.
Did you
observe or hear anything regarding people or events during your experience that
could be verified later?
No
Any
associated medications or substances with the potential to affect the
experience?
No
Was
the kind of experience difficult to express in words?
No
At
the time of this experience, was there an associated life threatening
event?
No
What
was your level of consciousness and alertness during the experience?
Fully
awake and conscious.
Was the
experience dream like in any way?
No.
Did
you experience a separation of your consciousness from your body?
Uncertain
I
felt as if I were floating above my body, but couldn't see in the darkness.
What
emotions did you feel during the experience?
There was no
real explainable emotion associated with the experience.
Did
you hear any unusual sounds or noises?
Just a Voice
that had a supernatural quality.
LOCATION DESCRIPTION:
Did you recognize any familiar locations or any locations from familiar
religious teachings or encounter any locations inhabited by incredible or
amazing creatures?
No
Did
you see a light?
Yes,
A candle
like flame.
Did
you meet or see any other beings?
Yes
The
voice came from behind the flame that was in the corner of the room. There was a
Bible scripture quoted. "I am the way, the truth, and the light. Follow Me." The
scripture is attributed to Christ, but there was no indication that it was
Christ. This is because, in my faith angels some time speak for god in the first
person, so, a person could assume it was god speaking instead it would only be
an angelic messenger.
Did
you experiment while out of the body or in another, altered state?
No
Did
you notice how your 5 senses were working, and if so, how were they
different?
Uncertain,
Everything seemed normal except the floating sensation.
Did
you have any sense of altered space or time?
Uncertain
I
felt that I was about three feet above my bed, Though there is no reason to
think three feet since it was totally dark. That was just what I thought at the
time.
Did
you have a sense of knowing, special knowledge, universal order and/or
purpose?
Yes,
I felt
as if I was being given a command.
Did
you reach a boundary or limiting physical structure?
No
Did
you become aware of future events?
No
Were
you involved in or aware of a decision regarding your return to the body?
No
Did
you have any psychic, paranormal or other special gifts following the experience
that you did not have prior to the experience?
Uncertain
I
have had many psychic, or paranormal experience before and after. So it would be
hard to tell. However, these experiences have seem to diminish with age.
Did
you have any changes of attitudes or beliefs following the experience?
Yes
My
attitude changed (this is hard to explain). It's as if this experience was to
give some Authority to my life's purpose so that I know I am to follow Christ,
not say, Buddha, or some teaching that might cast doubt upon the person of
Christ. Though, I integrate the teachings of many religions into my belief
system, even Buddha's teachings, if something seems contrary to the teaching of
Christ, I feel the need to reject it not based on empirical evidence but on the
fact that I was commanded to follow Christ. By command I don't mean like I don't
have a choice but it's more like persuasive Guidance.
How
has the experience affected your relationships? Daily life? Religious practices?
Career choices?
In some way it
keeps on a straight path. As mentioned above. I don't mean like a high moral
path, but a straight path.
Has
your life changed specifically as a result of your experience?
Yes
This
experience seemed to have added validity to my life as a spiritual teacher.
Have
you shared this experience with others?
Yes,
I have
mentioned this as illustration material in sermons, but there has been no
evidence that any one has been changed but me.
What
emotions did you experience following your experience?
No real
emotions, except maybe a wonderment at the experience itself.
What
was the best and worst part of your experience?
It was all good
and positive. No worst part.
Is
there anything else you would like to add concerning the experience?
I
believe this experience has helped to avoid many mistakes in life.
Following the experience, have you had any other events in your life,
medications or substances which reproduced any part of the experience?
Uncertain
I've
had many experiences, but no medication or substance.
Did
the questions asked and information you provided accurately and comprehensively
describe your experience?
Yes, it seems a
simple experience. but some of the questions seemed repetitive.
Please offer any suggestions you may have to improve this questionnaire.
It seems
to address the issues well.
