Glenn S's Experience
|
Experience description:
I will describe
the first SOBE. My brother and I had separate rooms. One night we had our
cousin spend the night. We all fell asleep in my brother's room. He had a bunk
bed in the room. Our cousin was on the top, and my brother and I were sharing
the bottom. I was 12. I remember an odd feeling like my entire body was asleep
(kind of like when your leg falls asleep). I then rolled out of bed onto the
floor. However, I was not in my body. I could see myself and my brother
sleeping in the bed. We had left the tv on. I could see and hear the tv.
There was some
sort of black shadow hovering over my brother. I remember hearing very clearly
"worship me" being repeated over and over. I had no idea what I was seeing, but
I new that it was evil in nature. I attempted to leave the room very fast. I
went thru the bedroom door out into the hall. I was terrified. I started to go
for my mom and dad's room. I then felt like I was pulled back into my body. I
was now in my body, but I was paralyzed all over my body. It seemed to take
about 30 seconds (just guessing on the time) before I could move again. I sat
up in bed. What confirmed it for me was that the sports show that was still on
tv was the same show that I saw in my experience.
These
experiences continued off and on until around 1990. I would say about half of
the time, I would encounter these shadow figures, and I was always very afraid
of them. Besides the first SOBE I never heard the shadow figures talk again.
They would just be there, and to me it would be obvious they were evil in nature
just by the feelings I would get.
In 1990 I was
staying at mom's house. During the night I had a SOBE. I floated out into the
hall and down into her room. I saw her look at me. The next night (when she
returned home from work) I asked her if she saw anything unusual the night
before. She said she thought she saw a ghost or a spirit in her room for maybe
a few seconds, and then she asked me how I knew about it. I then related to her
what happened. This was the first time I had told anyone.
I became a
Christian a short time later, and the frequency of the events were speeding up
and I was becoming more fearful. I finally got a Christian friend of mine to
start praying for me that God would give me some answers about what was
happening. During my last SOBE things happened a little different. I felt the
now familiar tingly feeling. I knew what was about to happen. However, for the
first time I saw one of these dark shadows directly above me. It felt like it
was reaching into me and trying to pull me out of my body. This was the most
terrified I have ever been. I started praying to God to help me, and at that
moment the experience ended. I prayed that night that I would never have one
again. I also had my friend praying for me. To this day I have never had
another one. I am not saying that I understand what was happening, and I am not
saying that an SOBE should be avoided. I just knew for me that it was wrong.
Was the kind of experience difficult to express in words?
No
What
was your level of consciousness and alertness during the experience?
I
would be in the process of falling asleep, or I would be sleeping.
Was the
experience dream like in any way?
Sometimes. In
fact there were times where I knew it was nothing more than a dream (I would
dream about having an SOBE). Then there were times when I knew for certain it
was an SOBE. Even though I do not have them anymore I still dream about them.
Did
you experience a separation of your consciousness from your body?
Uncertain
I
knew I was out of my body. I could see my body. However, I always felt like I
was still connected to it in some way. I could never go very far from it. If I
tried to leave the house I would return to my body.
What
emotions did you feel during the experience?
I was afraid,
uncertain, but sometimes I was excited and would try to explore or go farther
than the last time (meaning trying to go farter from my body).
Did
you hear any unusual sounds or noises?
During the
first SOBE I heard the words "worship me" repeated over and over. I never heard
any other words or strange sounds during the rest of them.
LOCATION DESCRIPTION:
Did you recognize any familiar locations or any locations from familiar
religious teachings or encounter any locations inhabited by incredible or
amazing creatures?
Uncertain
They
happened in my home, and I would see this strange black shadow figure from time
to time.
Did
you meet or see any other beings?
Yes
Yes.
From time to time I would see this black shadow figure, and I would get a very
evil feeling.
Did
you observe or hear anything regarding people or events during your experience
that could be verified later?
Yes
One
night I had an SOBE, and I went into my mom's room. We talked about the
experience the next night. She saw me come into her room, but she did not know
it was me. She thought it was a ghost. This was the first time I told mom
about the SOBE.
Did
you notice how your 5 senses were working, and if so, how were they
different?
Yes
I
could see and hear. There was no effort to move. I would just think, and that
would be the direction I would go.
Did
you reach a boundary or limiting physical structure?
Yes
I
would return to my body if I tried to leave my home.
Did
you have any changes of attitudes or beliefs following the experience?
Yes
I
followed a lot of "new age" teaching during this time frame. I became a
Christian. I continued to have the experiences, but my take on them changed a
little. That is when I prayed they would stop, and they did stop.
How
has the experience affected your relationships? Daily life? Religious practices?
Career choices?
It has not
really had a big effect. I have always believed there is more to life than what
we can see or prove. I did become a Christian, but the SOBE did not influence
that.
Has
your life changed specifically as a result of your experience?
No
Have
you shared this experience with others?
Yes
I
shared this with my family and a few close friends. They supported me.
What
emotions did you experience following your experience?
I was always
glad when it was over.
What
was the best and worst part of your experience?
It was great to
just float around and experience something really different, but the worst part
would be when I encountered the black shadow forms.
Did
the questions asked and information you provided accurately and comprehensively
describe your experience?
Yes
I
described it as accurately as possible.
Please offer any suggestions you may have to improve this questionnaire.
No - you
did a good job.
