Experience description:

In May 2010 I went to live in Bolivia, to work in an embassy as a political attaché. A typical thing that is done in La Paz is to go down a mountain by bicycle, from an altitude of 4500 meters down to 1300 meters (14,764 to 4265 feet) over a distance of 80 kilometers (50 miles); it’s called "the highway of death.”

On June 21, I went on an excursion over this trail. After descending the first few miles, we stopped at the side of the road to take photos and eat a little. When I got back on the bike, I saw a strange light in the whole sky, and I felt a question: "Do you want to come or do you want to stay?"

I thought I wanted to stay because of my mother and because I still thought I had things to do in life.   

A few minutes later, the cyclist who was in front of me braked unexpectedly next to a truck. He gave me time to jump off the bike and hit the ground. Otherwise, the truck would have crushed me or I would have fallen over the side of the road, down a deep cliff. I dislocated my right shoulder. It was 10 a.m. and they didn't start surgery until 5:00 p.m. I don't remember feeling pain despite the tremendous blow.  

The experience was not particularly stressful, rather the energy was powerful and I could not have done anything to prevent being taken if that energy had wanted to do so. More than fear, I felt the power of that energy.

At the time of your experience was there an associated life-threatening event?   Yes, bicycle accident.

Was the experience difficult to express in words?  No    

At what time during the experience were you at your highest level of consciousness and alertness?      When I was able to jump off the bike in time.

How did your highest level of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal everyday consciousness and alertness?      More consciousness and alertness than normal. I knew something was going to happen, and I saw that I had to jump off the bike, when I normally wouldn't have.

What emotions did you feel during the experience?   Fear but not panic.   

Did you pass into or through a tunnel?   No  

Did you see an unearthly light?   Yes. The sunlight became less bright, turning orange, even though it could not be because of the time of day.

Did you seem to encounter a mystical being or presence, or hear an unidentifiable voice?   I encountered a definite being, or a voice clearly of mystical or unearthly origin. I felt the voice inside my head, asking if I wanted to leave or not.
 
Did you encounter or become aware of any beings who previously lived on earth who are described by name in religions (for example: Jesus, Muhammad, Buddha, etc.)?   No  

Did you encounter or become aware of any deceased (or alive) beings?   No  

Did you become aware of past events in your life during your experience?   No  

Did you seem to enter some other, unearthly world?   No

Did time seem to speed up or slow down?   Time seemed to go faster or slower than usual. Time was slower at the time of the accident, so I was able to jump.
 
Did you suddenly seem to understand everything?   No

Did you reach a boundary or limiting physical structure?   No

Did you come to a border or point of no return?   No

Did scenes from the future come to you?  No 

During your experience, did you encounter any specific information / awareness suggesting that there either is (or is not) continued existence after earthly life (“life after death”)?   Uncertain. There was a higher presence that knew of my existence and the possibility of being able to go "to the other side."

How accurately do you remember the experience in comparison to other life events that occurred around the time of the experience?   I remember the experience more accurately than other life events that occurred around the time of the experience.  

Discuss any changes that might have occurred in your life after your experience: Currently, I meditate frequently, I engage in shamanic rituals, I recite the Saint Francis of Assisi prayer. Now I am looking for my purpose in life.

Did you have any changes in your values or beliefs after the experience that occurred as a result of the experience?   Yes. I started looking for spiritual answers.

Do you have any psychic, non-ordinary or other special gifts after your experience that you did not have before the experience?   Yes. It has progressively opened me to perceiving information that I could not know.   

Have you ever shared this experience with others?   Yes. Ten years. People have understood.

Did you have any knowledge of near-death experience (NDE) prior to your experience?   No  

What did you believe about the reality of your experience shortly (days to weeks) after it happened:   Experience was definitely real. I was in shock from the accident itself and the thought that it might have killed me.

What do you believe about the reality of your experience at the current time:   Experience was definitely real. I have read about NDE and discussed that topic, and I am sure it was one of them. Before mentioning it, I didn't think about it because I didn't know they existed.

Have your relationships changed specifically as a result of your experience?   No   Yes

Have your religious beliefs/spiritual practices changed specifically as a result of your experience?   Today I am much more spiritual. No.

DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA EXPERIENCIA: 

En mayo de 2010 fui a vivir a Bolivia, para trabajar en una embajada como Agregado politico. Una cosa tipica que se hace en la Paz es bajar una montana en bicicleta, de 4500 metros a 1300 metros de altitud en 80 kilometros de distancia, "la carretera de la muerte" se le llama.

El 21 de junio fui a una excursion que hacia este recorrido. Despues de bajar los primeros kilometros, paramos a un lado de la carretera para sacar fotos y comer un poco. Al volver a subir a la bicicleta vi una luz rara en todo el cielo, y senti una pregunta" quieres venir o quieres quedarte".

Pense que queria quedarme por mi madre y porque aun pensaba que tenia cosas que hacer en la vida.

Unos minutos despues, el ciclista que iba delante de mi freno inesperadamente al lado de un camion. Me dio tiempo de saltar de la bicicleta y tirarme al suelo. En otro caso el camion me hubiera aplastado o yo hubiera caido por el lado de la carretera, que es un precipicio profundo. Me luxe el hombro derecho. Eran las 10 de la manana y no me operaron hasta las 17.00 horas. No recuerdo haber sentido dolor a pesar del tremendo golpe.

La experiencia no fue particularmente estresante, mas bien la energia era potente y no hubiera podido hacer nada para evitar que me llevara si ella lo hubiera querido. Mas que miedo, era sentir el poder de esa energia.

¿Fue la experiencia difícil de explicar en palabras?    No     

¿En qué momento durante la experiencia tuvo su mayor nivel de estados de consciencia y alerta?    Más Consciente y alerta de lo normal     Cuando pude saltar de la bicicleta a tiempo.    Sabia que algo iba a pasar, y vi que tenia que saltar de la bicicleta, cuando normalmente no lo hubiera hecho.

¿Vio usted una luz sobrenatural?    Sí     La luz del sol se hizo menos brillante, pasando a ser de tono naranja, a pesar de que por la hora no podia ser.

¿Vio usted o se encontró con un ser místico o presencia? ¿O escuchó una voz inidentificable?      Me encontré con un ser definido, o una voz de origen claramente místico o sobrenatural    La voz la senti dentro de mi cabeza, preguntando si queria ir o no.

¿Se encontró usted o estaba Consciente de algún ser fallecido (o vivo)?    No     

¿Se hizo usted Consciente de eventos pasados en su vida durante la experiencia?    No     

¿Le pareció que ingresó a algún otro mundo sobrenatural?    No     

¿Pareció que el tiempo se aceleraba o enlentecía?    El tiempo parecía ir más rápido o más lento de lo usual     El tiempo fue mas despacio en el momento del accidente, por lo que pude saltar.

Por favor, describa cualquier cambio que pudo haber ocurrido en su vida después de su experiencia:   Actualmente hago meditacion con frecuencia, rituales chamanicos, rezo la oracion de San Francisco de Asis. Ahora estoy buscando proposito a mi vida.

¿Qué pensó usted de la realidad de su experiencia poco después (días a semanas) después de que sucedió?    La experiencia fue definitivamente real     Estaba en shock por el propio accidente y pensar que me podria haber matado.

¿Qué piensa actualmente usted de la realidad de su experiencia?    La experiencia fue definitivamente real     He leido sobre NDE y he hablado del tema y estoy seguro de que fue una de ellas. Antes de hablarlo no lo pense porque no sabia que existian.

¿Ha cambiado la práctica de sus creencias religiosas/espirituales como resultado de su experiencia?          No                   Ayudarme a entender lo que paso, a encontrar mi proposito de vida, y a no temer a la muerte (llevo 2 meses en panico por mi futura muerte)
