Doug H's Experience
|
Experience description:
Briefly; My son had
fallen ill with a form of leukemia due to anti-rejection drugs he had taken
over 8 yrs after a heart transplant when he was 6yrs of age. He had
experienced excellent health for 8 yrs post transplant until problems with his
immune system due to the immunosuppressants he had been taking. He had
been in and out of intensive care a number of time during his last 5 weeks
alive, however he simply succumbed to the leukaemia type disease and treatment
which unfortunately did not help him. The night
before he passed, I had walked back into his room in the intensive care unit
where his aunty was sitting with him. I believe at this point my son was aware
of who was present but appeared almost comatose due to his illness and drug
induced relaxed state as he had been intubated. As I sat
by my son bed on the right side of him, I had a sudden feeling of being agitated
and for some reason wanted to be suddenly alone with him. This was unusual for
me as there are always people in an intensive care ward. I didn't want to
tell my son's aunty to leave but, strangely enough she all of a sudden said she
was going outside so I could be alone with my son. This was unusual because my
wife and I were there most of the time, every day and we welcomed family close
visitors. Once my
sons aunty has left the room, I was sitting quietly holding his right hand and
felt the need to close my eyes which I did. I felt very calm and began to
move very fast through space, similar to a tunnel effect, where there was a
brilliant white crystal clear light. I didn't seem to be going anywhere other
then forward through this space at a very fast speed. I felt I was in control
and could get off anytime. I don't know exactly how long it lasted but I would
say about 30 seconds to almost a minute. I didn't
feel shocked, surprised at all just very quickly accepted it was a sign from my
son that he was going to be OK when he passed. When I opened my eyes it
stopped and I very vividly remember still being very calm from the experience
and simply said quietly out loud, "thanks for that XXX", saying my son's name.
I told me wife and a few close friends about the episode but generally I don't
talk about it. My son died at 8.15am the following morning, he was 15 yrs old. Now, all I
can say is that I know what I experienced and I would be interested in hearing
if any others who have had a similar experience when they themselves have not
