Experience description:
I was at home during my summer break and I was using a foam roller to relax my
glute muscles. I remember that I was
clenching my jaw while doing so because my muscles were really tight and I was
trying to work out a knot with the roller.
All of a sudden, I couldn't open my mouth, my jaw was shut tight
mysteriously; and I remember being a bit afraid.
Then, I felt a kind of separating going on in my head.
There was the real me that seemed to be pulling away from the corporeal
me. I got a mental image of it as it
was happening, and it seemed like the 'real me' that was pulling away was about
10 times more substantial that the physical me, and the physical me was very
thin and about as substantial as papier-mache. I don't know if that makes any
sense. At the same time, I was
thinking the thoughts of the real me, and I was thinking 'who is this
guy?....why is he so close to me?'
and I thought this a couple of times.
I was irritated that this earthly me was so close to me and invading my
space,kind of bothering me'.
At the same time, I was trying to fight this muscle spasm
(for lack of a better word) that was taking over my jaw/head.
Finally, I did pull myself out of it.
I still don't know what happened.
But I'm glad it happened, for some reason.
At the time of your experience was there an
associated life-threatening event?
Uncertain
My jaw locked up, and it seemed all the
muscles in my head contracted. I'm not
sure if it was anything medical, really. It may have been, but nothing similar
to it has happened since. The experience
passed within 10 seconds.
Was the experience
difficult to express in words?
No
At what time during the
experience were you at your highest level of
consciousness and
alertness?
I don't think I reached a high level of
consciousness.
How did your highest level
of consciousness and alertness during the experience compare to your normal
everyday consciousness and alertness?
Normal consciousness and
alertness
I wouldn't say that my consciousness was
higher or lower or on the same level. It
was just different, and unlike any consciousness I've ever experienced.
I suppose I left my earthly self and passed into a 'spirit self'.
I left my everyday consciousness, yes, but the experience was so short
that all I remember thinking were thoughts of irritation: who is this guy?
Which is strange, because it was a complete lack of recognition of
everyday me. Thinking about it, I like that idea; that is, the idea that
spiritually the real me is not the earthly me.
Please compare your vision during the experience to
your everyday vision that you had immediately prior to the time of the
experience.

Please compare your hearing during the experience to

What occurred during your
experience included:
Content that
was both consistent and not consistent with the beliefs you had at the time of
your experience
I already believed in a spiritual world
and life after death, but the first-hand experience gave it some concreteness.
I didn't expect to be confused and/or irritated in the process of leaving
the body. I always assumed it would be
peaceful etc. When I think about the
experience of being irritated, it makes me laugh a little.
I guess I find it a bit humorous because being irritated made it more
'real' in a sense. Overall, I believe it
makes me more wondrous of the universe. I
mean, all these nde's that I've read here are all so different.
It's good to see that the same thing doesn't happen to everyone, but that
somehow they are tailored to the individual's experience.
