Experience description:

I met a friend on the internet Nita. She said she was an advanced astral traveler and natural psychic. I had reason to believe she was telling the truth (from another mutual acquaintance). So I asked if she could help me out of body. She said she probably could but I might not remember it. We made an appointment. I lay in the bath meditating to music as deeply as possible for 90 min. Then went to bed and listened to a "hemi-synch" tape to help get into as deep a trance as possible. When I was just barely conscious. I started having lucid dream...but was aware I was still in my bed. All of the sudden I felt this electric current pass thru my body and I seemed to lift up like a puff of smoke. I could not see anything it was very foggy. Nita met me  and was talking to me. She had a very deep voice for a woman which I had never heard before. There were three other women's voices with her. They were all talking with each other. Strangely although I could here the pitch and tone of the voices very clearly, I could not understand the words, and the whole place was filled with a thick gray fog so I could not see them. The voices sounded like regular voices not at all like "thoughts". Nita was instructing me in a voice I could not understand so finally I decided to leave and willed myself back in my body. I immediately got up and wrote down the experience. The next day I called Nita and was shocked to hear EXACTLY THE SAME DEEP FEMALE VOICE. Without telling her my side, I asked her what she had seen. She said she had "energized" my astral body and then after it lifted out, she guided me to an astral level that was quiet and filled with fog, but was a good place to talk. I asked if others were there. She said yes there were three other women. One was a ghost who was going to incarnate soon and was a little nervous about the birth experience. The other two were other astral projectors she knew. It was exactly what I had heard. I was stunned! But was ebullient that I had proved to myself there really was some sort of spirit realm.

Any associated medications or substances with the potential to affect the experience?     No      

Was the kind of experience difficult to express in words? No      

At the time of this experience, was there an associated life threatening event?          No      

What was your level of consciousness and alertness during the experience?           Extremely alert, although I was in a deep trance to start with. I got more and more excited as the event went on and was totally clear and lucid about what was happening

            Was the experience dream like in any way?   No not at all dream like.. I never heard real conversation in my dreams that sounded like real voices, there was also a feeling of rapture and mild ecstasy. However, there were dreams going on in part of my mind that had nothing to do with the OBE. I was at the opera with my wife in the dream. But fell paralyzed to the floor of the opera. I was aware of the dream, and of the OBE, and of being in bed all at the same time.

Did you experience a separation of your consciousness from your body?     Yes    

What emotions did you feel during the experience?            I felt rapture, mild ecstasy. I felt a little nervous that there were three other  women there in besides Nita, whom I did not know personally. I wondered just a little if it might be a group of witches..:-) I got to know Nita very well soon after and have known her now for 7 years. She is the best astral traveler I know of and does it at will at any time.

Did you hear any unusual sounds or noises?           Well I described hearing Nita's deep voice and the voices of the three other women.

I don't remember any other sounds.

 LOCATION DESCRIPTION:  Did you recognize any familiar locations or any locations from familiar religious teachings or encounter any locations inhabited by incredible or amazing creatures?    No            Everything was hidden by gray fog

Did you see a light?           No      

Did you meet or see any other beings?           Yes     Nita and the other three women. Nita also described the meeting perfectly well on the phone. So it was mutual. I never have met the other three women.

Did you observe or hear anything regarding people or events during your experience that could be verified later?          No response           

Did you notice how your 5 senses were working, and if so, how were they different?          Yes            Sight was blocked by fog. I heard sounds and voices clearly...but could not understand them. I had a feeling of ecstasy...but no tactile feelings other than tingling and electricity.

Did you have any sense of altered space or time?   Yes     Clearly...I floated up like a cloud into some bizarre foggy otherworld. I was also still aware my body was in bed and also of a dream going on at the same time.

Did you have a sense of knowing, special knowledge, universal order and/or purpose?    Uncertain            I was just overjoyed that I had proven to myself that a spiritual dimension existed

Did you reach a boundary or limiting physical structure?             Uncertain      I passed into the fog and remember coming back into my body.

Did you become aware of future events?       No      

Were you involved in or aware of a decision regarding your return to the body?       Yes     I went back to my body as I was a little wary of the three other women. Also Nita was giving me commands. Later she said she was instructing me on how to stabilize my OBE. But at that time despite my joy, it was a little unnerving so I closed a door on them and was back in my body.

Did you have any psychic, paranormal or other special gifts following the experience that you did not have prior to the experience?         Yes     Well I heard the voice of a person (Nita) that I had never heard before and it was exactly like I he4rd later on the phone. So clearly this was paranormal.

Did you have any changes of attitudes or beliefs following the experience?   Yes     Confidence I had a soul separate from my body.

How has the experience affected your relationships? Daily life? Religious practices? Career choices?       I became a little obsessed about talking about it and studying up on OBE's etc.

Has your life changed specifically as a result of your experience?         Yes     I became certain Of a spiritual existence beyond the body. Which makes me happy when the world seems a tough place.

Have you shared this experience with others?         Yes     Some laughed, but my family all believed. I don't share this at work of course for obvious reasons a scientist can't be having that kind of experience..:-)

What emotions did you experience following your experience?  rapture

What was the best and worst part of your experience?      The best was hearing the voices. The only negative was a little worry. Why so many of them.

Is there anything else you would like to add concerning the experience?        Nita turned out to be an "astral Master" and actually attends an astral club that seems to resemble something like a Masonic lodge. Nita has gotten me out of body several other times..but none were as clear as the first time. However, I do believe I remember part of them.

 Following the experience, have you had any other events in your life, medications or substances which reproduced any part of the experience?         Yes     I've had 3 other partial OBE's where I was able to remember part of the experience and compare it with Nita or the real world. One was in the dental chair when I had taken Valium...but it was also very fun. I floated around the dental office looking at the people. Most people were as they were in life but two of them (this was in a dental school.) looked completely crazy with spinning eyes and ridiculous clothing including my dental student. I must admit that both of those people seemed somewhat "manic" when I got back in my body.

Did the questions asked and information you provided accurately and comprehensively describe your experience?               Yes
