Anna S's Experience
|
Experience description:
I was lying
on my back with my hands crossed over my chest, half conscious, when I started
feeling how my body and especially my jaw started to go stiff. A mild feeling of
cramp started to spread all over my body. I think I had just fallen asleep, but
then got half awake again. But it's hard to say for sure. At the same
time, I began to feel that my body, or maybe a part of the body became light
(the spirit part?) It sort of detached from the rest of the body. At first, it
felt like I was sinking down, but soon I instead started slowly "floating"
forward and up. I remember how I was thinking about if this could be an "out of
body experience", that I had heard of some time long ago. In a way I felt like I
wanted to go through with the experience and see what happened. But at the same
time, I was afraid that my leaving the body meant I was about to die. It came to
me that if I didn't fight it, I would never wake up again. I wasn't really
afraid then, but I decided that I would go back to the body in any case, because
I didn't want to die. It felt like I was at first pressuring myself back down,
but then it went on automatically. The moment I was back, I woke up. The body
was stiff and felt a bit weird. It tingled a little, especially in the legs.
When I was back and fully conscious, I was a bit frightened by the experience. Any
associated medications or substances with the potential to affect the
experience: No Was the
experience difficult to express in words? No At the time
of the experience, was there an associated life threatening event?
No What was
your level of consciousness and alertness during the experience?
Half conscious. Closer to a waking state than a dream state. Had bodily
sensations for instance, which I've never had in a dream. Was the
experience dream like in any way? I didn't feel fully conscious. Didn't have the kind of visionary
impressions you have in a waking state. Did you
experience a separation of consciousness from your body?
Yes Describe
your appearance or form apart from your body: I never got so far as to look down on my self. It just felt
like I knew that a part of me was still lying in bed. Maybe because I'd heard
that that is what happens in an "out of body experience". Don't know if I had
felt that I was floating otherwise. What
emotions did you feel during the experience? Hard to answer. A bit afraid that what I experienced meant I was
about to die. Were you
involved in or aware of a decision to return to the body?
Yes
Describe:
I decided that I would try to go back, because I thought that I might die if I
didn't. Have you
shared this experience with others? Yes What
emotions did you experience following your experience?
Fear. Did the
questions asked and information you provided accurately and comprehensively
describe your experience? Yes
