Ann's Experience
|
Experience description:
As I
looked out of the big tall window of granny's big living room, I was watching a
grey squirrel who was climbing near the window in the tall tree with red bark
and bushy greenery. I looked beyond the tree up to the sky. The sky
was pale blue with a few clouds. I think it was morning or afternoon.
Suddenly I was somewhere else. Instead of seeing the squirrel and tree, I was looking at planet Earth through space. I seemed to know it was planet Earth. It was quite far away but I could clearly see the blue and green of it. Earth was quite well lit up, I suppose by the sun. All around was dark space. I can't remember much about what else was around because I mostly was just looking at Earth. I didn't feel anything was abnormal, though I was a bit surprised at how suddenly I was out there. I thought it was rather nice to be doing it. I didn't really think about how I got there. I was just there, watching the Earth and thinking, 'That's the Earth.' I probably already saw pictures of it in my mother's atlas, I'm not sure. I don't know how long I was there, I don't think very long.
Then I
was back in the room, at the window. I told granny and my brother I'd been out
in the sky and saw Earth from out there, but they didn't take much notice. I
felt excited that I had suddenly gone outside of the Earth and into the yonder.
I don't think I could have imagined it, because I was so young. There was no
television, no sci-fi, in those days. In the early '50s, there was nothing
that could have influenced me to have that experience. I always hoped it would
happen again, but it didn't. I have never forgotten it, and the experience
vividly remains in my memory to this day. I'm not often on websites like yours,
but I saw it and thought this may interest you.
